Sevdah of lost identity is a feminist deconstruction of Sevdalinka songs and a search of cultural identity through sevdah. „Sevdah“ (from turkish word for love, longing for the loved one) refers to Sevdalinka, traditional songs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a unique combination of European western lyrical structure, South Slavic sentimentality and Oriental rhythm and melody. Singing Sevdah puts one in confrontation with the past and pain as well fosters collective healing process.
